In July last year I knew my time at Wollongong University was almost up and I wondered what was next for me.
For a while I have wanted to be a TV producer and I knew it was up to me to make that happen.
I wanted to move to London, as I knew they had a great TV industry over there.
On the 1st of February this year I landed in London on a cold winters morning.
I didn’t really know anyone nor knew if I was ever going to get a production job.
For months I travelled around the city, nervously knocking on doors and presenting them with my resume.
For the most part I didn’t hear anything back.
For some reason that didn’t really bother me, but motivated me more to keep searching.
In the meantime I worked as a waiter, doing long shifts.

I knew that job was only temporary and just a stepping-stone.
Finally I got a trial shift as a production runner at a Post Production place in Soho.
It was a lot to learn at first but I soon found my way, mixing with Producers and Editors alike who were working on fascinating TV shows.
With only a few weeks in I found out the ‘Head runner’ was leaving and they wanted me to take his place.
After searching for so long for a job in production it was crazy that I was now in charge of a small team of runners, making sure the Production house ran smoothly and all of the producers were happy.

If it doesn’t work out then that too is ok, as growing up in the Southern Highlands you know that you have a wonderful safety net of family and friends that care for you.
Although there have been many ups and downs, I have learnt so much about the TV industry and about myself during this time away. I hope other people take the chance to do something adventurous too.
