Children had a ball learning the A to Z of cricket recently.

A Steve Waugh Cricket and Bradman Foundation two-day clinic was held at Bradman Oval from December 21 to 22.

The clinic provided an opportunity for children aged six to 17 to learn the basic cricket skills including batting, bowling, wicketkeeping and fielding.

Young cricketers also learnt other aspects of the game including strategy, tactics, teamwork, health, fitness and nutrition.

Steve Waugh Cricket partner Simon Gould said the classes were about more than instilling good technique in the players.

“We want to instill Steve Waugh’s love of cricket,” Gould said.

“We’re passionate about what we do.”

Most of the participants had returned after a previous Steve Waugh Cricket and Bradman Foundation clinic held in October.

Gould said he enjoyed seeing how much the children had improved their skills in the last few months.

“We teach them a range of skills,” he said.

“It’s one thing to teach them technique, it’s another for them to remember it in a game.

“The clinic is about the progress a child makes. When they come back, it’s great to see their progress.”

The Steve Waugh Cricket coaching team includes Duncan Kerr, Greg Small, Corey Richards, Simon Gould and Alex Kemp.

A second cricket clinic will be held over three days at Bradman Oval from January 16 to 18.

The clinic cost includes admission to the Bradman Museum to learn about the world’s greatest batsman Sir Donald Bradman as well as the history of cricket.
