Newly-signed Mittagong Lions under 18s player Rick Thorn has been selected in the Western Suburbs Magpies SG Ball team.
Thorne participated in a trial in October and competed to make the top 25.
After an one-on-one interview, he was accepted into the team.
Mittagong Lions coach Billy Hayward said Thorn put in a strong performance to earn his place in the team.
“He was very dominant and handled himself well,” Hayward said.
Meanwhile Mittagong Lions junior player Daniel Webb has made the final squad for the Western Suburbs Magpies Harold Matthews under 16s team.
Webb took part in a trial in October, and made the initial cut of 42 members.
On the weekend Webb gained selected for the top 25 players.
Out of the 25 players selected for the final squad, only eight came from Group 6.
“His growth and development is an acknowledgement of how far he’s come,” Hayward said.
“He wants to learn and he’s hungry.”
Webb has been recognised for several achievements within the Mittagong Lions.
This includes group six player of the year, highest point scorer and a representative place in the country championships.

Hayward said the club was proud of the players’ efforts and achievements.
“We’re over the moon. We’ll be there to support them,” he said. “They’ll come back to the club better footballers. This should rub off on their fellow players.”
In more good news for the club, Mittagong Lions Billy McGuiness and Kai Wortz have participated in the Western Suburbs Magpies under 17s development program. The two joined the under 18s South West Razorbacks program this week.
