CWA was formed in 1922 following the Royal Easter Show in Sydney, when the women in rural areas felt a strong need to improve conditions for the women and children in their areas.
They were instrumental in establishing the first seaside holiday houses, baby health centres, and maternity hospitals.
CWA continues this focus on the welfare of rural families, both those on the land and in towns.
There is also a group in the Sydney area, which supports the CWA aims.
The association provides a forum for the voice of all women in NSW and ACT.
Each year there is an opportunity for members of each branch to put forward items of rural concern which could be environmental, health, welfare, communication needs and so on.
CWA have a strong relationship with government, working for rural women.
The association is a-political.
Membership is available for all women over the age of 18, with a Junior membership for girls under this age.
All branches have completed their programs for 2017 and are looking forward to their local support activities as well as the wider activities of the CWA, in 2018.
