We have a huge project on our plate – building a world class botanic garden for the enduring enjoyment of all locals and regional and international visitors.
We have set our sights high.
We want the garden and the visitors’ centre to be a major attraction for this region and to be enjoyed by our children and grandchildren for generations to come.
Speedy progress is hindered only by the lack of funds as we are completely self-funded.
We raise all our own money through the energetic efforts of our ‘Friends of the Gardens’ and volunteers, donations, plant sales and grants from government and corporate entities.
We were fortunate to receive a grant a week ago from the Commonwealth Stronger Communities Program, which will assist with the construction of a retail nursery during 2018.
At this fully operational nursery we will propagate plants suitable for the Highlands weather, together with rare and highly sought-after plants for everyone’s garden at home.
It will be run by our keen volunteers and operated under the horticultural expertise and guidance of Charlotte Webb and husband, Chris.
Our annual Christmas event last Saturday was one of the best events we have ever held, helped by a beautiful day.
Volunteers, together with many other locals who joined us, took time to walk around parts of the garden they hadn’t visited before.
They looked at their handiwork with different eyes, seeing the progress and getting an understanding of our future vision – a garden for all seasons in a cool climate.
