The clock in Argyle Street has been out of order for awhile.
The old clock mechanism has been toiling away since 1938, and is now wearing thin to the point of not keeping time.
After discussions with council’s heritage officer, it was decided to update the old mechanism with an electronic unit that self corrects and will keep time for many years to come without ongoing maintenance.
From the outside, the clock will remain the same using the existing analogue clock face and hands.
Council had an electrician onsite in late November reconfiguring the electrical supply.
Signage on the clock says it is expected to be up and running again from mid January 2018.
