This is something that Highlands band Coney Hatch knows only too well.
The group of five has been working together over the past few months to share their love of music with the community.
Charles Davis, Bill Lovett, John Holton, Andrew Wright and Rod Fisher make up Coney Hatch.
And where does the name come from?
It’s the name of the place where they practice.
All five have a musical background and most have experience in performing.
The band has no goals of financial success and Charles Davis said they just wanted to get out in the community.
So far they have played at Harbison Moss Vale and Burradoo and will perform at a car rally held in the Highlands early next year.
Their latest performance was a return to Harbison at Moss Vale on December 14.
Most of the music they perform is 60s and 70s although Charles said he had been able to introduce a couple of 90s Chris Isaac songs since he joined the band five months ago.
The band consists of two singers, a rhythm guitar, keyboard and a bass player.
“We try to construct the song to suit the singers. There’s two singers and they like to perform in harmony,” Charles said.
“We don’t go too much away from the song itself. It’s best to try and represent the song as much as possible so people connect with it.”
Connection with the music is particularly important for Coney Hatch, with their gigs so far having been at nursing homes.
They have often had people sing and even get up and dance with the band during their sets at Harbsion.
Often people have commented on how they know and enjoy all the songs being played.
“I’ve found with the nursing homes I’ve been very impressed with our ability to make that connection with the people.
“There’s definitely a level of appreciation for what we’re trying to do.”
