Most of the students have spent the better part of the year perfecting their pieces, which range from wheel-thrown to hand-built, utilitarian items to ornamental pieces and feature a diversity of styles, techniques and influences.
All ceramics will be for sale and artists will be on hand each day of the exhibition to talk about their work and the creative process.
Pottery school student Daniel Little, who has been a ceramics student for the past two terms, said he was submitting a mixture of pieces, both thrown, hand-built and hand-coiled, made from stoneware clay in the shape of vases, mugs and cheese boards with “a clean aesthetic”.
Under the supervision of Sturt pottery teacher Simon Bowley, Daniel said he had “fallen in love with ceramics” over the past two terms.
“I’ve always been attracted to ceramics and the aesthetic of clay – it’s such a tactile craft.
“The process of [throwing] is quite meditative, it really draws you into the moment. I’ve learnt a lot from the classes and found people who are really creative and willing to share their knowledge.”
Simon will officially open the exhibit on Saturday December 9 at 2pm. The collection will remain on show until Wednesday, December 13.
