Swan participated in the NSW PSSA Primary Girls Cricket Championships in Maitland recently.
The cricketer competed as a part of the South Coast under 12s team.
She represented the team with skill and enthusiasm.
A highlight for Swan was taking 3/14 while bowling against North West.
Swan was among about 66 cricketers from 13 teams at the championship.
The opportunity to play at the state competition was one that Swan wasn’t aware of until recently.
Swan’s mother had heard about the competition and encouraged her to try out.
The cricketer went along to the trial, and to her surprise she made the team.
Swan said the competition opened her eyes to how many girls participated in the sport, and excelled at it.
“I enjoyed it because I got to met a lot of people,” Swan said.
“I realised how many other girls play cricket, and are good at it.
“I felt at home - I knew they could play cricket, and they knew what the rules were.”
Swan brushed up on her skills for the state competition through her involvement with the Bowral Blues Cricket Club.
The cricketer played for the Royal Blue team on the weekends.
Swan said the team’s competitive nature on the cricket field helped her at the state competition.
“We’ve won every game we’ve played – expect one against the other Bowral Blues team,” she said.
Swan has played cricket for about six years.
She has also qualified for and competed at other state competitions during her time in the sport.
Last year she was one of three year five students selected in the South Coast girls cricket team.
The young star played seven games of cricket in the NSW State Cricket carnival over four days.
Swan has also been involved with the sport off the field. When she was in year three, she was also a flag bearer for a West Indies game at Bradman Oval.
