From the Suttor Street roundabout to the services club, traffic is often deadlocked as drivers try to get from one end of the town to the other.
Traffic problems in Moss Vale have come to the fore recently, with the state government’s decision to rezone Coomungie/Chelsea Gardens as low density residential and the ALDI proposal.
With other housing developments planned for Moss Vale such as Darraby, many residents are questioning what will happen when these are all completed.
ALDI’s development application was knocked back by council at the November 22 meeting because of traffic safety concerns.
Council has invited the RMS down to try and address some of the issues earlier this year but councillor Garry Turland said council has yet to receive a response.
“Apparently the RMS has a plan and we don’t know what it is. They’ve never bothered to come up,” he said.
While the affects of the Coomungie decision may not be felt for years, an RMS spokesperson said they were not yet looking at the issue.
“Roads and Maritime Services will work closely with the Department of Planning and Environment and Wingecarribee Shire Council to identify road improvement work and additional traffic requirements of the Chelsea/Commungie land release,” they said.
“Roads and Maritime is not presently examining the effects of rezoning the land release in Moss vale on Argyle Street.” Southern Highland News asked the RMS if it would come down to assess any traffic problems in Moss Vale or if there was already a plan to address these concerns. A spokesperson said traffic flow in Moss Vale was being investigated.
“Traffic flow through Moss Vale is being investigated as part of the performance assessment of the Illawarra Highway corridor strategy. The assessment will help identify opportunities to improve the road network in Moss Vale.”
