Bowral ahead after round one of Southern Highlands Cup

Bowral defeated Bundanoon two matches to one in he first round of the Southern Highlands Cup. 

The first round was played at Bundanoon Bowling Club on November 25. Players were impressed with the conditions of the grounds and hospitatlity of the club.

In the pairs match, Carl Spilker and Greg Taylor defeated S Granger and N Acton 16-1 in the first set.

The second set was very close and this game could have gone either way before Bowral won 10-7.

Bowral triples team, Mick Flynn, Noel Fraser and Jim Neely defeated Bundanoon’s S Beveridge, J Witney and P Cowling 10-9 in the first set.

Bowral got away to a strong lead but it was Bundanoon who came home stronger, losing by just one point. 

The second set was again close before Bowral pulled away for a 8-5 win.

In the four match, Bowral’s Ken Handley, Gordon Lewis, Bruce Clynes and Paul Leverett lost to J Hutchison, N O'mullane, P Poole and B Burnham 13-5.

Bowral regrouped for the second set and was able to win 10-4.

A three set tie breaker was played.

But the game was over after two ends with Bundanoon winning both ends.

The Southern Highlands Cup will continue this weekend, with Bundanoon and Robertson clashing in the tournament.
