The under-12 Highlands District Cricket Associaiton (HDCA) team finished its season on a winning note in its away game against Goulburn.
Results from other matches will determine the makeup of the teams moving through to the final.
However, the Highlands boys will not be one of the two teams.
Winning the toss Goulburn elected to bat but consistent bowling by James Smith and Archie McLean had the opposition two wickets down for seven runs the first eight overs.
Worse was to come for Goulburn after some brilliant fielding by Jessie Hol who threw to the bowler’s end.
It left Goulburn’s innings in tatters at three wickets down for nine runs after 10 overs.
Darcy McNamara and Oscar Lambie tightened HDCA’s grip on the match taking a wicket each.
Half the Goulburn team was sent back in the pavilion for 15 runs from 12 overs.
After Hugh Hansen dismissed two batsmen Goulburn were struggling with seven wickets down for 40 runs at the drinks break.
Sam Harwood added to Goulburn’s woes with his wicket and it was only a 77 run partnerships for the ninth wicket that added to the host’s score.
The final wicket, in the 37th over, left the HDCA team needing just 82 runs for victory.
Three bowlers claimed two wickets each with McLean sending down eight overs, which included five maidens, for four runs.
McNamara was also economical with nine runs scored off his bowling while Hansen had 12 runs scored from his two overs.
HDCA was required to face three overs prior to the luncheon break.
Jessica Savage and Jesse Hol survived and returned to the cease to resume the innings with six runs on the board.
Hol was the first batsman dismissed but Savage remained until the 18th over added six runs to the score.
Both Thomas Olofsen and Hansen, scoring one and seven respectively, were unable to help the visitor’s cause.
Sam Harwood and Jack Ayling added 22 runs in a solid partnership before Harwood left the crease with 19 runs to his credit.
Both McLean and Ayling, contributing six runs, saw the game evenly balanced with HDCA requiring 20 runs to win the game in 14 overs.
Smith and Lambie rescued the team adding 21 runs in eight overs.
Smith’s final shot went for four to clinch the victory.
To their credit the HDCA players focussed on their batting and avoided any distractions.
Danny Hol, who carried out the bulk of the scoring, was ably assisted by Michael McNamara.
All extended families were thanked for their ongoing support and enthusiasm throughout the representative season.
The Southern Zone batting and bowling averages have been released.
Several Highlands players have made the list.
Lambie, McNamara, Smith and Hansen were listed in the top 13 bowling averages.
With the bat Harwood ranked third, Will Kowalski ninth and Hol thirtieth.
In the new year players will be contacted in regards to two under-11 trial games for those eligible.
The annual junior representative presentation date, for under-12, 14 and 16 players will be released shortly.
