PCYC Southern Highlands will host a charity fight night to raise funds for the centre, its boxing program and competitive gymnasts at the centre.
There will be 20 fights on the night, with a line-up of boxers from the Southern Highlands and other PCYC clubs.
Boxers from the Wingecarribee will include Derek Lam, Neil Crowe, Nick O’Brien and Isaac Ngaia.
The senior boxing coach is Alberto Goodman and the referee for the night is Steve Ryan.
Coach Goodman said his fighters were ready to step into the ring.
“They’re getting there [with training] slowly but surely. They’re determined,” Goodman said.
“Each of them have their own individual qualities and weight classes.”
The event will also aid the PCYC mission of getting children active and stopping youth crime.
Ryan has been a boxing coach at several PCYC clubs across Sydney and has witnessed the difference it made in young people’s lives.
“I know that boxing has a stigma but it’s saved a lot of lives,” he said.
It could be for personal reasons, weight loss or self-esteem. It’s about community, feeling safe and working hard.

“A lot of wayward kids would’ve been in jail if it wasn’t for boxing.
“I can’t speak highly enough about it. It’s one of the most dedicated and toughest sports in the world.”
Goodman said being a part of the boxing community was formative, and meant different things to different boxers.
“It could be for personal reasons, weight loss or self-esteem,” he said.
“It’s about community, feeling safe and working hard.”
The charity fight night will be held at PCYC Southern Highlands, 6 Hawkins Drive, Mittagong from 5pm to 11pm on Saturday, December 9.
Tickets are $25 per person for general admission and $50 for a family pass.
Tickets will be available via the website www.pcycnsw.org.au/southern-highlands or at the door on the night.
