But for one mother, it turned out to be a scary and shocking experience.

The Highlands mum, who does not wish to be named, took her daughter to a park in Welby over the weekend.

The child suffered cuts after she came down the slide which was covered in broken glass.

“My daughter climbed up the equipment and went down the slide. By the time she got to the bottom she was screaming,” she said. 

“After a visit to emergency the staff patched her up and were very concerned.”

Police and council have been notified of the incident.

In her most recent column, council’s general manager Ann Prendergast said she was “shocked” by the incident.

“I would sincerely hope no one would intentionally leave broken glass or any other hazards in a playground. I implore all park users to keep glass bottles of any description out of children’s public play areas,” she said.

“I would also urge anyone who has any information about this incident to contact our local police as a matter of urgency.”
