The auxiliary hosted its final event of the year on November 13. The Christmas event included a raffle and craft stalls, and at 1pm more than $950 had already been raised.
President Sandra D’Adam said it had been “a very successful year.”
“We've raised about $10,000 which is just fantastic, it’s all thanks to the hard work and dedication our volunteers have shown,” she said.
This year the auxiliary worked with a very special new member.
In conjunction with Paws Pet Therapy, the auxiliary organised specialised pet therapy for patients in the Milton Park Ward at Bowral and District Hospital.
Each week, puppy Bing visited patients to provide company, smiles and laughter.
Treasurer Pam Webster said it was a service the auxiliary hoped to continue in the future.
“We loved it just as much as the patients, it’s something new and very beneficial,” she said.
“The patients and staff said it was a really good experience that made the patients forget about their problems for a little while.”
During this year the auxiliary also purchased two trays for the palliative care unit, suction pumps for theatre and syringe drivers.
“We have to thank the public and our volunteers for our success this year because wouldn’t be able to do it without them,” Ms D’Adam said.
Founded in 1927, the auxiliary’s purpose is to raise funds to buy additional equipment for the hospital.
The auxiliary holds several events every year to raise money for the hospital and each year raises between $7000 and $10000.
Moss Vale Hospital Auxiliary is keen to welcome new members.
Meetings and functions are held once a month.
