Title holders given a scare
Matches in the mixed pairs were played at Bowral Bowling Club on October 22.
Gail Fraser and Jim Neely defeated Pam Christensen and Gordon Lewis 17-15. Current title holders Fraser and Neely had to work hard to get into the next round. Christensen and Lewis had a 10-8 lead after 13 ends.
On the next end Fraser and Neely picked up five shots to lead 13-10. With two ends to play the scores evened to 15-15. The last two ends were won by Fraser and Neely to give them a two-shot win to go on to the next round. Fran Post and Ashley Lewis defeated Brian Porter and Reta South 29-12. The second half was all post and Lewis and they came away with a 17-shot win to go into the next round.
Team Leverett moves into final
Eric Willacy, Kevin Jones, Bob Edwards and Paul Leverett defeated Kevin Stafford, Ken Handley, Dennis Beatty and Ashley Lewis 21-10 at Bowral Bowling Club on October 21. The team will move into the final of the club fours championship.
It was a united effort by the teams early in the match and after nine ends the scores even 7-7. From then on the game was with team Leverett they hit the front and then able to extend their lead to 18-8. There was no time left for team Lewis to get back into the game and it was team Leverett going into the final scoring a solid eleven shot win. Carl Spilker, Noel Fraser, Jim Neely and Dougal Braithwaite defeated Glenn Giese, Rick Reynolds, Mick Flynn and Robin Staples 22-13. The match was very tight up to the 13th end scores being 10-10. The turn around took place on the next end with determined play by team Braithwaite that picked up seven shots, and moved into the next round with a nine-shot win.

Richard Denman, Don Coleman, Don Chapman and Bruce Clynes defeated Noel Acton, John Cummins, Brian Carlile and Josh Woodcock 18-15. John Edmonds, Dan Ticehurst, Peter Morales and Clive Neutze defeated Peter Landon, Harold Wall, David Ruse and Bill Dodwell 26-22.
United effort by team Morales
Carl Spilker, Joe O'Donnell and Peter Morales defeated Curtis Spilker, John Fleming and Dan Ticehurst 16-15 at Bowral Bowling Club on October 18. Team Morales with a good start had a 7-0 lead after five ends. The team did not extend this as team Ticehurst fought back to 9-9 after eleven ends. Each player from then on put in a full range of shots and matching each other in their play. From then on it was a ding dong of a battle. After a very tight game it was team Morales that lifted to a one-shot win.
