About 3000 riders will take part in the Bowral Classic on Sunday.
The riders will be joined by about 4500 family, friends and colleagues that will watch the event.
Participants will start their day in Bong Bong Street, Bowral and head off on either a 45km, 120km or 160km route.
Participants in the 45km ride will start at 7.50am, while those entered in the 120km route will start at 7.15am.
Event manager Vanessa Burges said the event was an ideal way for riders to become acquainted with the Southern Highlands.
”It focuses on showcasing the Southern Highlands,” Burges said.
“We want to showcase our magnificent scenery, and show people what we offer.
Burges said the shire’s businesses were expected to benefit from the annual event.
“The 45km is new this year and takes in stops at cafes and wineries,” she said.
“It’s a real sample the Southern Highlands experience.”
The Bowral Classic was crowned Australian event of the year in two categories at the Australian Event Awards in Queensland this year.
The cycling event beat other events to win the best new event award and best community event at the hotly contested awards.
Two separate judging panels each determined that the Bowral Classic was a stand-out in its category.
The event beat hundreds of entries received from every state and territory.
Last year nearly half of the 3,023 riders that took part brought their families to make a weekend of it.
The event injected $1.5m into the local economy, while participants raised $109k for a variety of charities.
The event also has a charity aspect to it.
Individual riders and teams can choose to raise money for the charity of their choice through a ‘choose your charity’ initiative.
