A single-vehicle crash closed all four lanes on the Hume Highway at Berrima near the Wingecarribee Bridge at about 8.20am.
The fire started when a prime mover and trailer hit a bridge and burst into flames. This fire from the crash resulted in second fire in nearby bushland.
The driver and sole occupant, aged in his 60s, was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and was taken to Bowral District Hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening. Police, SES, Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue crews also assisted at the scene. Meanwhile a vehicle crashed into a power pole on Fountaindale Road, Illawarra Highway, Robertson. The crash closed one lane.
A third crash at Oxley’s Hill Road in Bowral at about 8.20am. A vehicle flipped onto its side and the driver was uninjured. SES crews assisted at the scene.
Bowral Police Chief Inspector Jason Horne said while the crashes were not specifically related to road conditions, with wet weather on its way it was important for motorists to drive to the conditions. “After an extended period of dry weather, there’s a build-up of oil from car,” Inspector Horne said. “It doesn’t matter how good a driver is, as soon as you hit a patch [of oil], it’s slippery.”
