The NBN’s ‘Sky Muster’ service, which connects residents in regional or remote locations to the NBN through a satellite dish installed on their roof, has now enabled an increase in the maximum data that can be accessed each month.
This follows the NBN’s announcement in June that it would increase the maximum monthly wholesale data limits and increase average wholesale peak downloads plans by up to 50 per cent.
Internet providers can now offer a range of increased peak and off-peak broadband packages of up to 300GB maximum data per month on the NBN satellite network.
More than 8700 homes and businesses in the Hume are connected to the satellite network.
Federal MP Angus Taylor said the increase is expected to improve Highlanders’ experiences using the satellite network.
“The offerings will see users be able to upload and download larger files, spend more time on video conferences and stream their favourite movies,” Mr Taylor said.
I’m hearing many positive experiences from people who use the satellite, some now using the service to make voice calls, while others are now successfully using Skype.

“I’m hearing many positive experiences from people who use the satellite, some now using the service to make voice calls (VoIP), while others are now successfully using Skype.”
Mr Taylor also said that the maximum data limit will vary among internet providers.
“Each Sky Muster provider offers different data and price points, so users should contact their provider directly to enquire about the increase in data limits.”
The NBN is currently investigating new improvements on the service, such as a product to help to deliver long-distance education, and a product to provide additional capacity and customer service support for regional businesses.
