Gun Amnesty coming to an End
The community is reminded there are only a few more days left to hand in any unwanted firearms with no questions asked. NSW together with all other states and territories have conducted a three month amnesty starting on July 1 and ending at midnight on September 30.
The aim of the amnesty is to either register firearms or remove them from the community.
Under the amnesty:
- A person (regardless of whether they hold a firearms license/permit) will be able to surrender a firearm, firearm related article or prohibited weapon to a dealer or to a police station.
- A person who holds a firearms license or permit will be able to apply to have the firearm registered. Similarly, a person who does not hold a firearms license/permit may apply for a firearms license/permit which would allow them to register the firearm.
- A person will be permitted to supply a firearm or firearm related article to a participating dealer.
Police Remembrance Day
Each year, September 29 holds a special significance for police throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands.
It is a day for police to pause to honour officers whose lives have been cut short while performing their duty as a police officer.
This important day is also a time to remember police officers who have lost their lives through illness or other circumstances.
To show their support, members of the public are encouraged to wear a blue and white checkered ribbon which is the symbol of Police Remembrance Day.
Locally, a service will be held at 7am at Goulburn Police Station and 10am at Bowral Police Station.
