The Spuddies shield team went down to Oran Park 10-8 in a nail-biting preliminary final game at Dudley Chesham Sportsground on Saturday, September 9.
Spuddies shield captain/coach Aaron de Jager said despite the loss, the club was able to hold its head high. “They tried hard, but it wasn’t the result we wanted,” de Jager said. “It was a great effort from the club to get both teams in the semi-finals.”
Meanwhile the Spuddies cup team had a 20-16 loss to Appin.
Spuddies cup captain/coach Aaron Ditton said the team had performed well throughout the season, and the last game was no exception. “I think we played alright [on September 9], we were slow off the mark at the start,” Ditton said. “We came together as a team that hadn’t played before, and we were successful all in all.”
This year was the first year the club had with two senior teams in the finals since 1994.
