The school held a book swap and sale, where students could swap books with their peers or buy a book from the library for gold coin donation.
Moss Vale teacher and librarian Katie Cripps said students were happy to support the cause.
“Teenagers have a strong sense of social justice and they want to help out,” she said.
“It helps close the gap and limits disadvantage. For students to access the curriculum, they have to have good levels of literacy.”
The school raised more than $100 through the book swap.
Funds raised will go towards publishing books in the first language, to retain it for future generations.
