Maddy Saffery has completed the Queen’s Guide Award scheme, the peak achievement award for senior guides. “It feels special to be able to achieve the award,” Miss Saffery said. “I’m happy I managed to complete it with no major hiccups.”
Miss Saffery’s service included 30 hours of community service over three months at Bridges for Learning in Bowral.
Miss Saffery recommended the scheme for other young women in the shire.
“Just go for it. You only get one opportunity, so give it a go,” she said. “It gives you so many opportunities.”
Unit leader Pamela Howard said the award was achieved through a sustained effort. “It was a huge effort, and she set the bar high,” she said.
The award scheme offers girls aged 14 to 17 with the opportunity for personal development and greater self-awareness. Ms Saffery will receive her award from the governor of New South Wales next week.
