JUDGE:
Phillip Minnis enjoyed judging the Facebook cover photo competition so much last month that he decided to return for the September competition.
Mr Minnis won six honourable mentions in the International Photography Awards Competition, and in the past two years, three of his photos have made it through to the final judging in the National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year Contest.
WINNER:
Mr Minnis’ comments: “A lovely B&W image! I particularly like the way the photographer has shot this scene. Many photographers would have included the ground in a shot such as this; however, I find the way the viewer only gets to see the top portions of the trees subtlety effective and quite striking. The defined lines of the tree branches, juxtaposed against the plainness of the sky really makes this an eye-catching image. Congratulations Darren, on being this month's winner!”
RUNNER-UP:
Mr Minnis’ comments: What a lovely scene! I particularly like the angle from which the photographer has captured this scene. I can almost smell the lavender! A thoughtfully composed and balanced image! A nice example of the ‘Rule of Thirds’ – one of the most effective composition techniques in photography! Congratulations Diane on your second placing in this month’s competition!
