►The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) will now investigate how asbestos got into crushed concrete that was sold at the Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) in Moss Vale.
Council has been issued with a Notice to Provide Information and/or Records by the EPA in relation to asbestos found at the RRC.
► A Highlands action group has weighed in on claims that Berrima Colliery is one of the worst polluting mines in Australia.
The Boral owned colliery ceased operation in 2013.
Dr Ian Wright from Western Sydney University said Berrima Colliery had been polluting the Wingecarribee River for years in a submission on the Hume Coal proposal. More here.
►IF you happened to be awake at 3am on Wednesday, August 16, you may have noticed the temperature was warmer than usual.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), the temperature reached 20.8 degrees, the hottest temperature at that time and day in two years. More here.
►For the past two months, Rob Moran has been in Mongolia building the game of cricket.
The Highlands teacher was selected as a volunteer cricket coach for the Mongolian Amateur Cricket Association (MACA).
While for many people the idea of cricket in Mongolia may seem like a strange one, but Rob believes the country has plenty of potential.
►NSW Shadow Arts Minister Walt Secord has thrown his support behind a plan to turn the Bowral Memorial Hall into a major performing arts space.
Mr Secord called on the state government to provide council with some of the funding needed to create a regional performing arts space for the Southern Highlands.
Under the $3 million plan, Bowral Memorial Hall would have with an improved entrance, retractable raked seating for up to 301 patrons, improved disability access and other features such as a box office and refreshment areas.
►Hayden Honey qualified for the finals of the U15 Milo Challenge in Wodonga on August 20.
After the first round, Honey was placed third in the line-up for the final. He bowled off against fourth and second place, and won the round to secure second place. He then bowled off against the first place qualifier and won.
TRAFFIC: The Illawarra Highway on Macquarrie Pass will shut weekly – between 6am on Monday and 3pm on Friday – from July 24 until August 11, weather permitting.
