‘What is the fuss all about?’
I find the concerns about the Southern Highlands Wines DA by Jan Wilson (SHN 2/8/17) and Jenny Ferguson (14/8/17) both inappropriate and in part misleading.

They claim lack of detail on a number of items, including the function centre use and hours, parking, traffic generation, upgrade to intersections, helipad operations and flightpaths, all issues that if not already properly addressed are usually addressed in Council’s “Conditions of Consent” with most major DAs.
They note concerns the proposed development is at the expense of the rural ambience, not consistent with the character of the area and needs to be more suitable and responsive to the character of the Southern Highlands.
Hang on isn’t this on a rural property and what is a Tuscan style, rendered walls, wrought iron and terracotta tiles? Maybe we need to take the blinkers off as we drive around our Shire.
Two doors up on the Illawarra Highway is the yellow Tuscan style homestead of Hill Top Stud. The green Tuscan style Gibraltar House on Old Bowral Road now being retained as part of a retirement village.
Travel up Oxley Hill Drive or Centennial Road in Bowral and behind the heavy landscaped large blocks of land there are numerous Tuscan styled residence. There are many more rendered, wrought iron, terracotta style buildings throughout our shire if you take the time to note them.
The ornate tower is on par with the Centennial Wines tower and if you visit the winery areas of the Barossa Valley, Margaret River, Hunter Valley and many more wine growing regions throughout the world you will experience the Tuscan style.
Remember it was just over three years ago Councillors voted unanimously to rezone this site SP3 for tourism based on a development with enough rooms to accommodate over 400 people, the current DA is now accommodating half that number.
Just 200 metres up the Highway is Peppers Mount Broughton, it does not affect the local residents or the overall rural environment. Oh! you can’t see it? No! Because it is well landscaped just like the plans for this much need development will be.
What is the fuss all about? Bring on the jobs, accommodation, economic growth and the flow on to other businesses throughout the Shire.
