But what 67 Hoddle Street in Robertson will be next will keep Highlanders guessing for the next few months.
Geoff and Monika Williams purchased the property through McKillop Property in August 2017.
The building was constructed in 1878. It was originally a bank office with a residence for the manager and had four rooms.
In 1907 extensions where made with the addition of another office and room for the manager.
The bank was closed in 1936 and became a receiving office and in the 1970s the manager’s office was used by visiting doctors.
A Highlands family owned the property since the 1970s.
As well as being their home, Geoff and Monika hope to turn it into a business. But what that business will be, they do not yet wish to say.
“Everyone will love it. The locals will love it,” Monika said.
They have called the property 1878 on Hoddle.
The couple said they would include many of the building’s heritage features.
“I’ve always dreamed of owning something that was old. And it’s a blank canvas,”she said.
The house has eight fireplaces and the original vault.
Of the eight fireplaces, three are in working order but Monika said members of the Moss Vale Men’s Shed had agreed to come and help them fix the rest, some of which had parts missing.
A builder by trade, Geoff said the original timber that was used for the front counters was still in excellent condition and would be used as part of the revamp.
“We just want to improve look of the building and bring it onto a modern era,” he said.
“Anything we do here will help the community. It’ll still be the old building, just a little bit fresher.”
Originally from Vincentia, Monika said they had often travelled to the Highlands and knew the area well.
Monika said they hoped to have the business up and running around Christmas with plenty of work still to be done in the house and the grounds.
