If they like bushwalking, they might have made a stop at the Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre to take in some views.

But – without taking anything away from the wilderness attractions (which are considerable) – even locals don’t know about some of the hidden foodie gems scattered throughout the region.

Now these producers and businesses have banded together to make the sixth of the Highlands’ Food and Wine Clusters and the word is getting out – there’s some serious feasting to do.

The Fitzroy Falls Cluster, which showcases food producers and country living in the villages of Burrawang and Fitzroy Falls, was launched on July 28 at the Burrawang Hotel.

Since then, the people involved have discovered how working together is better for everyone.

“The cluster is a great idea,” said Mat Mauger, who – following on from his grandfather and father – runs Mauger’s Meats in Burrawang.

“Some of these relationships are really long-term, so a lot of the support was happening anyway, but this way it helps the whole community. The big, older businesses can help the smaller, newer businesses.”

“I’ve met new people doing things I’ve never heard of before,” said Chris Cloran, who operates Heart Spring bottled spring water.

Not only do the operators benefit from the connection, but so do residents and tourists alike, who are now able to discover those hidden gems.
