The school held an event called ‘RUOK?’ on Friday, August 18 to raise awareness among students and staff about youth mental ill-health. Pupils were given the opportunity to reach out to friends and peers in the school they feared may be suffering in silence through a letter-writing stall that was set up and run by students from Clancy house. Information cards with details of support services were also handed out. Organiser of the event, teacher Chris Arnold, said it was important students were made to feel safe and secure in opening up about mental health problems. “It’s about empowering young people to, one, talk up if they are having issues, and two, for people to actually help friends they think are having a hard time,” he said.
