In two absolute thrillers the under 10s scored in a golden point time, then the under 11s in turn scored on the bell which allowed both teams to move forward to Sunday week’s preliminary final at Camden.
Under 10s and under 11s are still in the finals race, with respective coaches Daniel Ismail and Chris Shea also providing a great environment for the team.
Under 12s coach Rob Gallina had mixed feelings after his team’s final game, as three fantastic girls Hannah, Tayah and Alliyah have been selected for the Bowral Girls League Tag team.
This year has been a good year for the Bowral Kookaburras.
All of the club’s mini sides, under 6s, under 7s and under 9s had great fun and gave lots of enjoyment to us all.
The Bowral Girls League Tag team improved in this year’s inaugural competition. All of the girls, along with coach Peter, are looking forward to next year’s competition.
Under 10s
What a game by both Bowral and semi-final opponents Camden. This match set the tone for the day, and was well received by all that watched. The Bowral boys played their hearts out, never gave up and came away with a well-deserved win.
At half time Bowral led 18-12. Then Camden came out of the blocks, and scored straight after the break to level the scores. For the remainder of the half both teams traded points, and by full-time the scores were locked at 28 all.
The first period of golden point time couldn't split the teams. It was then in the second period of golden point time Bowral piled on the pressure to trap Camden in the in goal. From the drop out Bowral were able to score to seal the match.
Under 11s
Bowral Rugby League Kookaburras under 11s played Appin in the elimination semi-final at Narellan last weekend in a tough game. Appin had been on top of the ladder for most of the season, and only slipped to third with a loss in the final round of the competition. The Bowral team has been on a roll since defeating Appin in round 11.
The first half saw a great try to Tommy Philp, and with Appin also scoring the half time was level at 6 all. The game opened up in the second half, with both teams scoring several times, and neither side able to break away. With five minutes left on the clock, Appin scored a crucial try out wide and looked to be on top, but then with 3 minutes left the Bowral team rallied and after some great lead up work Kaileb was able to get across the line. Oliver Shea converted and with the scores locked at 24 all it looked like we were heading to extra time.
An Appin mistake gave Bowral possession, and with some great runs from Charlie Westoff and Ollie Johns, Bowral were again within striking range.
It was the fifth tackle, time was up, and the decision was made to run and not kick.
Oliver ran to the line and passed to Tommy, Tommy offloaded to Brayden, and Brayden stormed over the line for the match winner as the time on the clock ran out! Bowral winners 30-24
All of the team played exceptionally. They believed in each other and were able to get the win. This now puts them just one win away from playing in the grand final.
