CWA meeting
Moss Vale CWA welcomes all interested people to the groups next coffee and craft morning on August 16. This will be held at 66 Elizabeth Street, Moss Vale from 9.30am to midday. Red Cross
The Moss Vale-Berrima branch of Red Cross will hold the next monthly meeting on August 16 from 2pm at a home in Moss Vale. All interested people are welcome to attend and assist in ongoing activities. Agriculture, environment day
The Mittagong Branch of CWA will hold its monthly meeting and Agriculture and Environment Day on August 23 at the rooms in Winifred West Park, Mittagong. Activities for the day start with the monthly meeting at 11.00 am followed by lunch at midday. At the conclusion of lunch formalities for the Agriculture and Environment Day will start. Garden party
The next fund raising activity for Can Assist will be a Secret Garden Partu on September 24. this will be held at an undisclosed location in Bowral from 3pm to 6pm. Girl Guides
Be a part of a world-wide organisation for girls which encourages adventure and a sense of community. Moss Vale Girl Guides meets each Tuesday during the school term from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at the Girl Guides hall 3 Donkin Avenue, Moss Vale. Activities enjoyed by the group include camping, campfires, archery, caving, boating, compass work, art craft and much more.In fact there are currently three guides from the Moss Vale unit representing Australia at two back to back camps in England and travelling with a representation of 15 Guides from Australia. Trivia nights
Test your general knowledge while enjoying fun with friends.The Moss Vale Golf Club hosts trivia nights every Thursday. These kick off at 6.30pm each Thursday and promise fun for everyone. The event is free with club vouchers and bragging rights up for grabs. No bookings are required just grab a few friends and come along to enjoy the fun.
View Club
The next dinner meeting of the Southern Highlands Evening View Club will be held on August 14 at the Mittagong RSL Club from 6.30pm for a 7.00 pm start. Guest Speakers will be Robyn Seager and Jeremy Sharpe, program co-ordinators from the Goulburn office of The Smith Family. They will speak on the work they do with the "Learning for Life Programs". Robyn and Jeremy have several young students living in the Wingecarribee Shire on their books. Come along and hear how they help these disadvantaged children. Club members are also reminded that there is a collection of stationery items to be given to Robyn and Jeremy on the night. For guest bookings and member apologies call Kath on 48713924.
Low carbon living
Low carbon living will be the topic of discussion at the next CANWin lecture on August 18. Wingecarribee Council economic development manager Noel Ferguson will be the guest speaker at the lecture to be held at the Henrietta Rose Room, Bendooley Street, Bowral, from 6.15pm for a 6.45pm start. He will speak on the low carbon living project in the Blue Mountains and how this could be adapted to the Highlands. People should arrive early as there are only 60 spaces available. Entry is by gold coin donation. A brief AGM will be held at the end of the lecture.
Ocean views for bushwalkers
Ocean views will be enjoyed by those who take part in the next adventure undertaken by the Southern Highlands Bushwalkers Inc.
The group will trek from Otford to Burning Palms and return on August 20. This will include a view of the Figure Eight pool as well as ocean views and the possibility of whale sightings.

The changing role of religion in Australia will be the focus of discussions at the next Royal Society gathering on August 17.
Royal Society looks at religion
Psychologist, sociologist, social researcher and former teacher, Hugh MacKay (OAM) will be the guest speaker at the meeting to be held at Chevalier College Performrming Arts Centre.
Why more Australians are boycotting church but staying spiritual, increasingly people identify themselves as SBNRs, “Spiritual but not religious” will be looked at during the presentation.
Doors open to the centre in Charlotte Street, Bowral from 6pm with a 6.30pm. The cost is $10 for non-members, $5 for Royal Socety members and teachers and students are free. Dinner will follow at the Briars Burradoo, however Hugh will not be able to attend the dinner.
