And now she needs help for a treatment that could halt or reverse the disease.
Melissa hopes to undergo Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in Russia.
HSCT involves taking stem cells from a person’s bone marrow before giving them several different kinds of chemotherapy to kill the cells which cause MS.
The stem cells are then transplanted back into the person before they go into isolation to recover.
A fundraiser was held on July 29 at Southern Highland Wines.
It was a fun night of trivia, silent auctions and prizes.
Carl Spilker, who conducts trivia nights locally, was the MC for the event and generously donated $10 for every word he mispronounced.
There were more than $4000 worth of local donations including a $500 Gumnut patisserie experience that Jodie Iliani auctioned off with amazing results.
Gina Cicco, a close friend of Melissa, who organised the event said she was grateful for the support and generosity of the Highlands community and deemed the evening a great success.
