Dr John Brodie will be the guest presenter at refresher course for Justices of the Peace. This will be presented by the Southern Highlands branch of the NSW Justice Association at Moss Vale Services Club on August 17.
It has become an annual initiative of the branch to ensure JPs of the region are up to date with the latest rules and regulations.
The Southern Highlands branch requires all of its members to undertake annual training if they are to volunteer on the free JP Desk service offered at various locations across the region. This is to ensure that all volunteers are fully cognizant with all regulatory requirements so they can competently conduct their duties in accordance with the JP Handbook issued by the NSW Attorney General’s Department.
Dr Brodie, who is on the board of the NSW Justices Association, is responsible for the Education and Training portfolio. He recently completed a training manual for NSW Justices of the Peace and contributed to the online trading program of the NSW Justices Association.
He will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table for the August JP refresher course.
Dr Brodie has consulted to companies associated with education including being a university and TAFE lecturer and a senior examiner of the Higher School and School Certificates.
His formal qualifications include a bachelor degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, a Masters degree with distinction, a PhD, a Teaching Certificate and a preliminary Theology Certificate.
Dr Brodie has spent 25 years as an elected representative in local government serving two terms as Deputy Mayor and three terms as Mayor for which the Local Government Association of NSW awarded him the title "Emeritus Mayor".
He has served, and is serving, as a director on several boards and has completed director training courses. He is also the patron of several organisations.
The JP refresher training will be held on August 17 from 1pm for a 1.30pm start at the Moss Vale Services Club on the corner of Argyle and Waite Street. The course will finish at about 4pm.
