Councillors endorsed Cr Ian Scandrett’s motion to conduct a feasibility study for a rail side project in conjunction with Wollondilly Shire council at the July 12 council meeting.
“This ticks a lot of boxes. This is a great project, let’s find out what’s it worth,” Cr Scandrett said.
He told councillors the mayor of Wollondilly had assured him the council would match the Wingecarribee’s $25,000 to fund the study.
The proposed project would construct a shared walking and biking track along existing unused rail lines between Mittagong and Picton.
But there were concerns from councillors about funding of the project itself.
Mayor Ken Halstead supported the study but said if the project went ahead, council shouldn't spend “one dollar” on it.
