The Spuddies knocked the Appin Dogs from first position with a 42-18 victory on July 15.
Spuddies captain/coach Aaron Ditton said his team was prepared for a tough match against the Dogs.
“They were in first spot and it was big chance for us,” he said.
However the Spuddies got off to a slow start.
“It wasn’t our best start but we turned the game around and started to take control from there,” Ditton said.
“We were ahead in all of the game from that point on.”
The Spuddies have continued to improve as the season continues, and Ditton said he was pleased with the team’s progress.
“We completed our sets really well and our completion rate is getting better and better every week,” he said.
Ditton commended Mitch Wright and Craig Millan on their performances during the match.
While the Spuddies were ahead for the majority of the game, Ditton said Appin missed a number of opportunities.
“They were under a bit of pressure but they threw away a lot of penalties and a lot of ball,” he said.
The coach said he was pleased to snatch top spot after 11 rounds of competition.
“I’m pretty happy, it’s the place you want to be at this point in the season,” he said.
“If we want to stay here though we need to continue to build on what we've done so far and keep our completion rate high.”
