Kiama and District: The Original Histories is Mr Mackie’s fourth book and encompasses tales from around Kiama, Jamberoo, Gerringong, Minnamurra and other parts of the Illawarra.
The curator originally intended to celebrate the life of Joseph Weston – the founder of the Kiama Independent – but decided to include a more comprehensive list of authors such as judge Alfred McFarland, Frank McCaffrey and reverand James Mullan.
Mr Mackie hopes book lovers and history buffs will be encouraged to discover the detailed “gems” of anecdotes of people and events he has unearthed.
Kiama and District is expected to launched in August.
Other books by Graham Mackie include The Chronology of Kiama, Blowhole Point: My Kind of Icon, and the biography of Eleanore Pamilla Weston (mentor to Academy Award winner Orry Kelly).
