Hume Coal submission
Councillors will vote to adopt a submission in regards to the Hume Coal Project. Council has prepared a report to submit to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in response to Hume Coal’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The report comments on a range of long and short-term impacts the project could have on the Highlands. It has been recommenced councillors adopt the submission and lodge it before the public exhibition period finishes on June 30.

Public toilet strategy
A strategy for maintaining and developing public toilets in the Highlands will soon be on public exhibition. Councillors will vote to place the draft Public Toilet Strategy on public exhibition at the June 28 meeting. To complement the Fit for the Future Improvement Program, the strategy was developed in 2016/17. It aims to provide guidance on levels of service and financial sustainability for public toilets across the shire.
Disability Inclusion Plan
Councillors will receive feedback on the draft Disability Inclusion Plan 2017-2021. The draft plan was on public exhibition from May 25 until June 7. Council received 18 submissions and no changes were made to the final document. The plan has included statistical data primarily from the 2011 Census. It is expected councillors will adopt the document and also vote to review and update the statistical data when possible.
Surveillance cameras policy
A CCTV and Portable Surveillance Camera Policy will be presented to councillors at the June 28 meeting for adoption. The policy was developed to protect employees, residents and visitors to the shire, protect council’s built and natural assets, deter crime and protect the environment. It is expected councillors will adopt the new new policy and rescind the Illegal Dumping Code of Practice (adopted in 2012). The new policy will cover all of council’s operations.
150 year anniversary
The Moss Vale Railway Station 150 year anniversary committee will seek financial support from council for promotional materials for the December event. The committee is made up of members of the Berrima District Historical Society and local historians. Celebrations will be held on December 9.
