In fact, the past month has been especially busy for the club members.
The activities kicked off with a 41st Birthday Dinner in May with special guests, VIEW national president Gwen Wilton and zone councillor Joanne Gray.
A special feature of the celebrations was a floral demonstration by florists from Flower Flower at Mittagong.
Another highlight of the evening included recognition of two long serving club members - Marie Morris who was presented with a 40 year service pin and Leonie Knapmann who was recognised for 20 years of service in the club.
A picnic at the Fitzroy Falls Dam gave club members the chance to get-together for some socialising and the chance to soak up some autumn sunshine and the glorious colours of autumn leaves.
The busy schedule continued into June with a meeting at the home of club president Jan Scott for a photo shoot for the Southern Highlands Evening VIEW Club’s entry in the “Fabulous Fountain” competition. The photographic competition is for all VIEW Clubs in Australia to promote VIEW.
The shoot took the form of a fun-filled morning as club members worked to set up their VIEW umbrellas in perfect positions around Jan’s fountains in her garden This was followed by lunch inside by the fire.
Club members are confident their photographic entry will be a winner although the actual photo entry is a secret until judging at VIEW’s National Convention in September at Tamworth.
The monthly Dinner Meeting was held on June 5 with the evening taking on a French Open theme.
Tables were decorated in red, white and blue and there was a centrepiece of a tennis ball that would have been hard not to hit.
It was a fun night for all with many club members dressing up as their favourite tennis stars including Rafael Nadal and Leyton Hewitt. Sue Ireland won the prize for the oldest tennis racquet and Tennis Trivia rounded off a very enjoyable night.
New club members are always welcome.
Southern Highlands Evening VIEW Club meets on the second Monday of each month at the Mittagong RSL Club for Dinner 6.30 for 7.00 pm.
A guest speaker and social activities are held not just as fundraisers but give club members and guests a chance to get together in a less formal manner.
Coming up in August is a Curry Luncheon in a members home and people are urged to book in with Kath early as numbers will be limited.
VIEW is a National organisation for women of all ages and backgrounds, raising funds for and supporting the programs of The Smith Family, Learning for Life, the Student to Student reading program, student mentoring, all designed to give disadvantaged Australian children help with their education. VIEW Clubs of Australia has just reached its goal of sponsoring 1200 children for 2017 this month. Our club currently sponsors three students.
Research has shown that supporting children’s education and learning is the most effective way of breaking the cycle of disadvantage and ensuring all children realise their full potential.
