More students than ever before will perform at Schools Spectacular in 2017.
Three students have also been selected to perform at the Opera House as part of annual Instrumental Festival.
Eve Thomas and Joel Hinchcliffe were selected to sing Say You Won’t Go at the Jacaranda Concert on September 5, while Javiera Diaz will perform her own composition Little Towns at the Mimosa Concert the following day.
Head of creative and performing arts at Moss Vale High Linda Johnston said this was a great achievement for all the students involved in both showcases.
“We had a choir last year [at the Opera House] and the senior vocal ensemble has been in a few times. This is the first time we’ve got individual items through,” she said.
“We’ve never had so many students involved [in Schools Spectacular] and it’s such an excellent opportunity.”
For Schools Spectacular, Margaret Fitzgerald, Joel Hinchcliffe, Javiera Diaz, Eve Thomas, Taylah Denford, Olivia Tumanow, Cassidy Brown and Lachlan Finlayson were selected to be a part of the choir.
Janya Gage-Simpson, Rhiannon Glendenning-Fuller and Natasha Debrodt were selected to be part of an Aboriginal Dance.
“For some of these kids, music is their life so we’re just furthering their journey,” Ms Johnston said.
“For me this is really exciting that these kids are getting to this level. It’s really nice that they can be rewarded for all their hard work.”
Auditions for both were held earlier in the year and Ms Johnston said each required students to submit a video entry.
Those students performing in Schools Spectacular will learn their routines before the event and then take part in a mass rehearsal in Sydney prior to the performance.
Schools Spectacular will be held on November 24 and 25 at Qudos Bank Arena.
“I think the talent is building at the school,” Ms Johnston said.
