They say many hands make light work – but that hasn’t stopped two Highlands groups from working hard. At least 30 pairs of hands played a role in the creation of two quilts to be raffled in support of Welby Garden Centre.

The Southern Highland Quilters Guild shares a three-year partnership with Challenge Southern Highlands, which runs the garden centre, to help Highlands men and women with disabilities maintain meaningful employment.
Tickets can be purchased at Highlands Marketplace on the first and third Thursday of each month, to be drawn at the quilters’ 2018 show.
“This organisation provides training and employment for adults with disabilities,” Southern Highland Quilters Guild convener Vanessa Dalgleish said.
The quilt was presented to Challenge Southern Highlands director Tony McElhinney during a routine ‘Sit n Sew’ at the Mittagong RSL on June 13. “Support like this means we can continue to help grow our employees’ self esteem and show them what they can do in this community,” he said.
