The week will be held from June 5 to 11 and Wingecarribee Council has organised a packed schedule of walks and talks to celebrate the week.
This year, World Environment Day is all about Connecting People to Nature, with communities all over the world being encouraged to get outdoors and rediscover the beauty and value of the natural environment.
In the Southern Highlands, there are many amazing places for people to experience and discover.
Our Week of Wonderful Walks and Talks incorporates many parts of the shire, from the stunning waterfalls of the Illawarra escarpment, to the rugged beauty of Mount Alexandra and beyond - it truly is a bushwalker's paradise.
And with local guides leading the way, the experience is sure to leave participants with a new appreciation of this unique part of the world.

June 5:
- Fitzroy Falls - West Rim Walk, one hour. Meet at 10am and 1pm at the Fitzroy Falls Visitors Centre. Gold coin donation and park use fee of $4 per vehicle.
- The Gib - Heritage Walk,two hours. 10am – midday. Free. Meet at the lower carpark (trachyte wall entry), Oxley Drive, Bowral.
June 6:
- Lake Alexandra Meditation Walk – 1.5hours. 10am-11.30am. Free. Meet at the main shelter, Lake Alexandra, Mittagong.
- Wingecarribee River Walk – 1.5 hours. 1pm-2.30pm. Free. Meet 1pm at Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve picnic area, off Argyle St, Burradoo.
June 7:
- Mansfield Reserve Bird Discovery – two hours. 9.30-11.30am. Free with BirdLife Southern Highlands. Meet at the entry to Mansfield Reserve, end of Mansfield Road, Bowral.
- Gibbergunyah Flora Walk – two hours. 1pm-3pm. Free with botanist Greg Stone. Meet 3pm at Bowral Golf Course car park, Boronia Street, Bowral.
June 8:
- Box Vale Track Discovery Walk – 4.5hrs. 9.30am-2pm. Free. Meet at the entry to the track, Box Vale Road, Woodlands
June 9:
- River Walk at Berrima – two hours. 10am - midday. Free. Meet 10am at Berrima Reserve Camping Ground, Oxley St, Berrima.
- Lecture and Discussion; Speaking to the Earth – Speaker, Dr David Tranter, retired CSIRO scientist. 6.30-8.30pm. Henrietta Rose Room, Bendooley St, Bowral
June 10:
- Kids Ranger Day at Fitzroy Falls – 2.5hours. 10am and 1pm at the Fitzroy Falls Visitors Centre. Cost $10 per child and park user fee of $4 per vehicle
June 11:
- Waterfall Photography Workshop – four hours. 10am-2pm. Free with Highlands Adventure Co and Justine King Photography. Meet 10am at Gambells Rest carpark, Morton NP, Bundanoon. Don’t forget to bring your camera! (Digital SLR and tripod recommended)
Other events:
- Moss Vale Community Garden, Think Global, Grow Local – June 10 from 10am-2.30pm. Worm Farms, Wood-fired pizza and more. Railway Street, Moss Vale.
- Backyard Safari Photo Exhibition – Monday to Friday throughout June. 9am-4.30pm. Civic Centre Foyer, Elizabeth Street, Moss Vale.
Important Safety Information for Bushwalks: Bushwalking is undertaken in natural areas and may be hazardous and strenuous.
Participants accept the risk inherent in such an activity. A medium level of fitness is recommended for all walks. Participants must wear enclosed shoes and wear appropriate clothing (hat, jacket, etc).
Participants must carry adequate water, food, sunscreen and insect repellent. Children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Places are lmited to 20 people for each bushwalk and bookings are essential.
