The Hawks travelled to Hollymount to play Northern District Tigers for round six of the AFL South Coast Juniors competition.
Despite a defeat, the Hawks managed to score in both the under-9s and under-11s.
There was an obvious improvement in the style of play across both teams as they move closer to that elusive first victory of the season.
Strong parental support has continued to be a feature of the code’s growth in the Southern Highlands.
Under-9s coach Shannon said it was a tough game against some strong competition.
“We were up against a really good side but we came home with a nice good hit that got the kids excited,” he said.
Although the Hawks have shown a lot of improvement since the start of the season, Shannon said there was still a lot to work on.
“There is plenty to work on, we really struggled with positional play and finding targets for the kicks,” he said.
“But they are starting to read the play.”
Under-11s coach Matt said it was a hard fought match played by the young Hawks.
“If our third quarter effort was the same in all quarters we would have put a really competitive game together today,” he said.
Matt said the Hawks played well and were continuing to show high levels of improvement.
“Our second quarter our pressure wasn’t good on the ball but our first and our third were really good quarters of football and that’s what we are working towards and building,” he said.
The Hawks will play in fron of their home crowd at Loseby Park on May 28.

The under-11s will kick off at 10.10am.
