The self-described ‘Bundanoonian’ has purchased a one-way ticket to New York, where his first stop will be to play at the 2017 Golden Key Society music festival.
The only Australian included in the line-up, Andrew said the performance would be a career highlight. "It’s one of the pinnacles as far as venues go, it’s where the Beatles performed, Gershwin and countless classical musicians,” he said.
The chance to play in such an historic venue does get the nerves racing, even for a professional pianist.
“I think most musicians would be lying if they said they didn’t get nervous, I think they just get better at controlling it,” Andrew said.
“The nervousness gets channelled into excitement and gives you an edge, to help you play at the top of your game – it’s a delicate dance.”
From New York, Andrew will fly to Miami and then Maine for music festival performances, then onto Washington DC where he will play at the Australian Embassy for Ambassador to the United States Joe Hockey.
Until then, Andrew looks forward to seeing his parents and brother Daniel, a record-breaking Australian swimmer, in the audience at Carnegie Hall.
“Everyone thanks their parents but I am so grateful to mine - Danny and I have always been encouraged and never pushed. I think that’s a key factor in our successes.”
