The wheels are still turning at Reekies Tyres and More in Bowral, though in a temporary location.

The family-owned and run business is now operating out of a workshop on Willow Road, just over the train tracks.

The building on the original site at Station Street was completely gutted in a fire on November 26 last year, which also caused damage to neighboring business Bowral Veterinary Hospital. While the vet practice has since re-opened, the road to repair for Reekies is an ongoing journey.

Dozens of firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW, including from Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Bundanoon, Picton, Albion Park and St Andrews stations, worked well into the night before the fire was extinguished.

Many Rural Fire Service crews also tried to salvage what they could of the building, but it was lost in what was one of the largest structural fires in the Highlands for several years.

While plans are underway to rebuild the business at Station Street, owner Allan Reekie and his team continue their trade from 1 Willow Road, Bowral.

Mr Reekie thanked his customers for their loyalty, support and patience throughout the ongoing process. "At this stage it's looking like we should be back at the old site by January, but hopefully sooner," he said. "In the mean time, everything is operating as normal, just in a different spot."

Mr Reekie said the business had experienced issues with the NBN and the relocation of phone lines, which meant at times customers had trouble getting through. "We've only had one line working instead of four so if we miss a call, Elise will try to get back to you. We want to say thanks to our customers for understanding."

Despite the hardship the Reekies team has faced, Mr Reekie and his staff are committed to provide quality service and deals to customers. "We have a special running on Yokohama tyres - pay for three and get four SUV and 4WD tyres until the end of June," he said.

The temporary location at Willow Road is off Kirkham Road, behind The Highlands School of Performing Arts (THSPA) and opposite Carpet Court.
