Joel Hinchcliffe and Eve Thomas have both secured major roles in the 2017 arena spectacular, as a featured artist and backing vocalist respectively.
The two Moss Vale High School students went through five rounds of auditions to be chosen for the event.
“When I found out I’d secured a spot, I cried,” Eve said.
“I never thought I would get this far.”
Moss Vale High School has not had a featured artist since 2008, and has only ever had two backing vocalists.
Joel said he was inspired to audition after watching Southern Stars in 2016.
“I’m so surprised I received a solo, there are some people who have auditioned multiple times and haven’t had such good positions in the show,” he said.
For now, the pair are gaining more experience and rehearsing for the Wollongong-based show.
“We know the songs from the auditions, but we don’t have sheet music yet,” Eve said.
“We’ll have a week long rehearsal in July from 9.00am to 5.00pm, then dress rehearsals before the big nights.”
The Southern Stars arena spectacular will be held August 25 and 26 at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre.
