For the third year running, the teams at Bakers Delight Bowral and Mittagong held an Easter ‘Bundraiser’.
More than 5000 hot cross buns were baked for the one-day event on April 1, with bakers hard at work all day to keep up with the demand.
From each six-pack of hot cross buns sold at the stores, $1 was put towards the hospital donation – now that’s a lot of dough.
Owner Jo Harrington said knowing the fundraiser was for the local hospital really motivated the community.
“It’s close to the hearts of our employees, too,” she said. “A lot of us were born at the hospital, and our kids were too,” she said.
Next year, Jo said the team wanted to raise the stakes (and the flour) and double the money.
”We’ve had wonderful support from our centre managers to hold these events and we’re very thankful,” Jo said.
Bowral and District Hospital general manager Valerie Jovanovic said the money would be well spent.
“We are very appreciative, it’s wonderful of them to think of the hospital,” she said.
“We’ll be buying a new carer’s chair for the Paediatric Ward, it’s a big fold-out chair that lays flat for parents who stay with their children.”
