May 10 is Wear Orange Wednesday, better known as WOW Day and is a national day of appreciation that recognises the dedication and work of State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.
The focus of WOW Day is to encourage the community to get involved by wearing the colour orange, which is the official colour of the SES uniform.
People can show their support of SES volunteers by uploading a picture of themselves, their families, or their friends wearing orange to social media.
Alternatively Highlanders can email photos to carly2384miller@gmail.com or upload to the NSW SES Wingecarribee Unit Facebook page.
There are 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia who each year volunteer about one million hours of their own time to help communities in times of natural hazards and emergencies.
In the past 12 months, NSW volunteers have responded to more than 50,000 tasks, whether it was helping their communities in times of severe weather, responding to road crashes or helping other emergency services.
By wearing orange on WOW Day community members can show their support for SES volunteers across Australia.
If you can’t wear orange on WOW Day then why not change your Facebook profile picture to show your support?
