Highlanders can kick up their heels at the Highlands Pipes and Drums Ceilidh, a night of music and dancing in the School of Arts hall.
Highlands Pipes and Drums vice president Graeme Gentles said the evening presented the opportunity to hear something a little different to your average live show.
“We’re not a rock band, we’re a pipe band that plays genuine Highlands music,” he said.
“We wanted to create a night of enjoyment, where you’re taken back to gatherings of 100 years ago with a modern twist.”
The evening starts off with Highlands games for children, including the caber toss, tug o’ war and water balloon throwing.
A traditional address to the haggis will be given before the foot stomping music begins.
Dance along to the pipes and Ceilidh dance music by band String Fiddle.
Graeme said the dancing would be a mix of Highland and country Scottish dancing, with a dance caller to help everyone learn the moves.
“Everybody mixes in, you don’t need any sort of skill,” he said.
Light refreshments will be provided, however participants are encouraged to bring their own food and drink to this night of merriment.
There’s also the chance to win with competitions, lucky door prizes and games prizes.
This is the third year Highlands Pipes and Drums members have held the ceilidh, and Graeme said they planned to continue the annual event.
“It’s a nice hall in a nice community, it fitted to hold this type of event,” he said.
The Highlands Pipes and Drums Ceilidh will be held April 29, with games from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and dancing from 7.00pm.
Admission is $10 per person, and $25 for families. RSL club staff, veterans and children under the age of 10 enter for free.
