According to NSW Fair Trading the shops that won’t be open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday include department and hardware stores (so no sausage sizzle at Bunnings), take-away liquor stores and clothing stores.
However you’ll still be able to get bacon and eggs with a coffee.
Here’s some of the cafes open from the north to the south of the Illawarra:
Cafe Diem in Helensburgh, Hargrave Cafe in Stanwell Park, Chedo’s cafe in Coledale, Headlands hotel at Austinmer, Bulli Beach Cafe, Rubys Cafe at Bulli Beach, Diggies at North Wollongong, 5th Ave at Shellharbour Village, The Farm Cafe at Killalea State Park, Alexanders Cafe in Dapto, Saltwater Cafe in Kiama (from 11am), Penny Whistlers Cafe in Kiama, The Blue Goose cafe in Gerringong, and the Robertson Pie Shop.
Easter trading restrictions also don’t apply to small shops like take-away food outlets, chemsits and newsagencies.
Other places open to keep you occupied on the public holiday include Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures, Jamberoo Action Park, the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society at Illawarra Regional Airport, bars and hotels (check your local area).
