Help make an environmental difference
Last week I went on an excellent tour of bush care sites around the south western end of the shire, organised by Paul Marshall the council's Bushcare Co-ordinator.

It was fantastic to see the results of the efforts of all the volunteers, council bush care team and NSW forestry.
What was disheartening was to see the very same weeds so fastidiously eradicated from these sites, sprawling uncontrolled from domestic gardens and running rampant on private land and other areas like the railway corridor.
The shire council has some excellent information on what garden plants have become environmental weeds, how to control them and some suggested alternatives.
What would be most helpful to all those interested in caring for our bush is for private landholders to make themselves familiar with the invasive plants, then either eradicate or at least control them in their own gardens and rural lands.
Otherwise they just provide a seed bank waiting to re-invade the lovingly restored bush.
With a little effort from everyone it really is possible to make a huge difference.

A ‘destructive path’ for training
It is interesting to note that what Liberal O’Farrell/Baird/ Berejiklian government has done to the power industry it has also done to TAFE.
It has taken a destructive path in ransacking TAFE in NSW and supporting the private providers (PPs).
Under this state government TAFE has sacked 5550 teachers, resulting in the axing of many courses.
Consequently there are 126,000 fewer students enrolled in TAFE than there were in 2012.
They’ve also sold-off 27 TAFE colleges, 21 of which are in country areas.
In order to safeguard the high standards of Australian tradespeople, trade courses should only be run by qualified and experienced staff at TAFE colleges nationwide.
Only then can the public be confident when they engage a plumber, electrician, builder motor mechanic or other tradespeople - their services will be of a high and safe standard.
